Study in UK
Do I need to get a visa before I arrive in the UK to study?
The answer maybe yes or no. If your home country is on the visa national list, you may need entry clearance before you travel. If your country is not on the this list and you want to come to the UK for more than six months, you may also need entry clearance from your nearest British embassy or high commission.
Most recently the Student Visitor visa has been introduced which is aimed at those coming into the UK for shorter periods (mainly distance learning students, who maybe required to attend in person for their course).
So there are exceptions to every rule. For more information visit www.ukvisa.gov.uk
